Two Dead and One Seriously Injured in Hugo, MN Semi Trailer Accident

Two people are dead and one person is seriously injured after a semi truck rear-ended a minivan on Highway 61 near Hugo, Minnesota.

The minivan was slowing in the north-bound lane of Highway 61 to make a left hand turn onto 159th Street when the semi truck, also in the north-bound lane,  rear-ended it.

When a semi truck rear ends another vehicle, there are usually two factors at play, speed and inattentiveness.  When semi truck driver negligence causes an accident, several parties may be liable (legally responsible to pay money to compensate victims and families), including the driver, the employer of the driver, the owner of the tractor, the owner of the trailer, the owner of the freight and others.  Injury victims and families of people who die due to the negligence of another have a right to compensation under Minnesota law.

Our primary job as Minnesota semi truck accident lawyers is to do everything necessary to recover as much money as possible for our clients.  We are also public safety advocates.  Our clients often want to see changes to the law to prevent tragedies similar to their own.  We help them fight for these changes.  One of our clients recently spoke before a U.S. House committee.

The Minnesota State Patrol has released the names of the victims. Two women died: Carolyn Anderson, 59, of Eagan, Minnesota, the driver of the minivan, and Rosemarie Bongivanni, 88, of St. Paul, Minnesota, one of the passengers.  Another passenger, Marlene Wanner, 72, of Oakdale, Minnesota, was seriously injured.  Marlene Wanner and the families of Carolyn Anderson and Rosemarie Bongivanni deserve justice.

Wrongful Death Due to Medical Malpractice Estimated to Take 200,000 Lives This Year

Wrongful Death Due to Medical Malpractice Estimated to Take 200,000 Lives This Year

Surgery Mistake LawyerIf you have lost a loved one to a medical mistake, you are not alone.  200,000 people in the United States will die this year from preventable medical errors and hospital infections, according to a report from the Hearst Corporation entitled, “Dead by Mistake.”  This is a staggering number of deaths.

Most states do not require hospitals or physicians to report mistakes, and even those that do are not taking steps to make sure all serious medical mistakes are reported.  Without enforcement, laws are meaningless.

Patients trust hospitals, doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other health care professionals with their lives, often never questioning the medication prescribed, the surgical procedure, the diagnosis or the care given after surgery.  This is a trust misplaced in many cases.

Our lawyers represent families in wrongful death medical malpractice lawsuits.  Our experience has been that the following scenarios are far more common than they should be:

  • Surgery on the wrong part of the body.  For example, surgical removal of the wrong organ or the wrong body part (leg, arm, finger).
  • Medication error.  For example, administering the wrong dose, the wrong medication or overmedicating.
  • Hospital infections.  Often Stapholococcus aureus, MRSA (an antibiotic-resistant Stapholococcus aureus) or C. difficile.

Pritzker Olsen Attorneys have a national reputation and have been interviewed by The Associated Press, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Lawyers USA and others.  Attorneys Fred Pritzker, Elliot Olsen and Eric Hageman have been named Minnesota Super Lawyers by Law & Politics.  To contact our law firm for a free consultation regarding your Minnesota medical malpractice case, please call 612-338-0202, call 1-888-377-8900 (toll free) or submit our free consultation form.  We do not get paid unless you win.

Was the Accident Caused by a Defective or Inadequate Warning System?

Railroad Crossing AccidentOur law firm represents families in wrongful death actions, and we are also public safety advocates.  Train accidents can be caused by defective warning systems.  In these cases, the manufacturer of the defective parts should be held accountable.  Also, it is important to have an expert investigate the crash site to determine if the safety measures in place were adequate.

Contact Pritzker Olsen law firm for a free consultation.  We have the resources to fully investigate an accident and to hire the best experts for the job.  We do not get paid unless you win.
