On August 17, a Kawasaki motorcycle slowed down to make a right turn into a private driveway when it was rearended by a Dodge Intrepid in Hutchinson. The motorcyclist, Andrew Johnson, an 18-year-old Hutchinson resident, was seriously injured, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
It appears that this motorcycle accident was caused by the other vehicle. It is the third motorcycle accident in three days that may have been caused by an auto driver’s negligent inattentiveness.
On August 16, a motorcyclist was critically injured when a car turned in front of the motorcycle on Highway 47 in Isanti County. The motorcycle had no time to stop and broadsided the car.
On August 15, a car pulled out in front of a motorcycle on Highway 169 in Onamia, Minnesota. The motorcycle had no time to stop and made rear end contact with the car. Ronald Green, who was driving the motorcycle, and Brenda Jo Green who was a passenger on the motorcycle, were both critically injured, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
“The number of motorcycle accidents caused by inattentive drivers suggests that the Minnesota Department of Transportation needs to do more to educate drivers to watch for motorcycles,” stated Attorney Fred Pritzker, who has recently recovered over a million dollars for a passenger of a motorcycle who was seriously injured. “MNDot’s emphasis is on motorcyclists driving safely, which is important, but more should be communicated to other drivers about driving safely on the road with motorcycles.”
