Student, Instructor Injured in Plane Crash
The crash of a small plane this week at Lakeville’s Airlake Airport hospitalized a student pilot and his instructor, but the two men appear to have survived the impact. The pilot in training was identified by the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office as John R. Pederson.
Also hurt was flight instructor Scott D. Johnson, 46, of Eagan. The Star Tribune said Johnson is chief pilot for LSA North Inc. in Lakeville, a sport flight school and seller of light sport aircraft.
The plane that crashed Tuesday at the end of the runway in Lakeville was a Light Sports Evektor airplane.
Pederson was admitted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul and was listed Wednesday in serious condition. The Star Tribune said Johnson was treated for less serious injuries at Fairview Ridges hospital in Burnsville.
In an email to the newspaper, the flight instructor wrote: “We will both be OK. I have a few cuts and bruises. John has a broken ankle.” But Pederson was listed in serious condition and the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office said Pederson’s injuries were to his leg.
