Gas Explosion and Fire Injures Three Near Big Lake
A married couple smelled gas in a house they were moving into in Big Lake Township on Monday. In keeping with recommended industry safety precautions, they stopped what they were doing and called the gas company to inspect the property.
According to a story in the Star Tribune, a utility worker arrived and couldn’t find any problem. The couple resumed their move into the house on Wednesday. When they smelled gas again, they checked the appliances, aired out the house and resumed moving in.
The Sherbune County Sheriff’s Office told the Star Tribune that that’s when the house exploded and caught fire, injuring the couple and a friend.
The couple is Laddy and Ruth Cusick, both 79. The third person injured was Mary Richardson, 69. The newspaper said they were airlifted to different hospitals and there were no reports immediately available on the extent of their injuries. Mrs. Richardson was in serious condition in Hennepin County Medical Center.
